9, Try to get them reading as much as possible, there are more and more English signs in Japan, they will learn on the train, walking to school etc.

The largest improvement I have ever achieved, with the least work, in my Japanese study was learning hiragana.  Suddenly my world opened up I could read and understand twice as much about my environment as one week earlier.  Not only was it good educationally, more importantly it was a very big boost to my confidence.

できるだけたくさん"読み"をさせましょう。日本には多くの英語のサインがあり、電車内や通学中にも学べます。
