英語の教え方のテクニックNo３；

There are four skills in language .

言語には４つの技能があります。

The four skills are reading, writing, speaking and listening.  They are all important so here are some techniques to help each area.

Reading

I teach reading using phonics, sight words and leveled readers.

• Phonics teaches the child the basic sounds in English and the letter or letters that make them.  For example "A" sound in ant or "OO"  sound in moon.
• Sight words teach them to instantly recognize common words, whether they follow phonetic rules or not.  For example THE, IS, SAID, A,
• Leveled readers introduce new vocabulary and increase the length of sentences as they progress, breaking up learning into easy steps

Tips: 

• Make books a part of your child's life, English books, Japanese books, picture books.  
• Read to them as much as possible in English (if possible) and in Japanese too.
• Read signs and notices on shops and in the train, start with short single words like EXIT and sound out each sound E-X-I-T then put them together EXIT.
• If they are watching an English DVD put on subtitles in English, they will read some words as they watch.

４つの技能とは、読む，書く、聞く、話す。これらは全て大切です。
ここではどのようにそれらを勉強していくかをお話しします。

読む

私はフォニックス、サイトワード（視覚単語）、レベルドリーダーズ（英語圏の児童向けの本）を使って”読み”を教えます。

• フォニックスは、英語の基本的な音やそれらが作る文字を教えます。例えば "A" sound in ant or "OO"  sound in moon.

• サイトワードは、普段すぐに認識すべき言葉を教えます。例えばTHE, IS, SAID, A,など。
• レベルドリーダーズ（児童向けの本）は、新単語を紹介します。レベルによって文章の長さが変わるので学習しやすい。

Tips

• 本（英語の本、日本語の本、絵本）を子供の生活の一部にしよう。
• できるだけ多くの本を子供に英語で読んで聞かせてあげよう。（＊できれば英語でですが、日本語でもOK）。
• お店や電車の中で英語のサインや注意書きを見つけて読んでみよう。始めは EXITのような短い単語。まずそれぞれの音を読んで E-X-I-T（エークスーイッートゥ）それからまとめて読んでみましょう。 EXIT（エクズィット）。
• 子供が英語のDVDを見ているなら、英語字幕をつけてみて。見ながらいくつか文字も読むようになりますよ。
